ZILLERGRUND DAM IN AUSTRIA |
It's more than a
year on from what I thought would be my final entry on this website, but there
is still more to report. First a bit of bad news. My younger brother Paul (see Blog
entry 30 Sept 2009) finally succumbed to lymphoma near the end of last year. He
was a musician, amongst other things, and shortly before he died he suggested
that I sell off some of his music gear to raise further money for the charity
fund. He was keen that the target figure of £10,000 be reached, so that is just
what I have done. Quite a bit of the gear was bought by local duo Trev and Trev.
A good bit of news
is that our somewhat depleted family ranks are being replenished. Isaac (see DEDICATION),
who is now 2 years old, recently gained a little sister, Susanna.
What am I doing
now? Well working a little, but not too much. The company that dispensed with
my services shortly before I commenced my charity walk (see BLOG entry 9 Apr
2009) re-hired me on a 5-year contract that provides me with just enough income
to keep me going. My faith that honour and compassion does exist in business
was not misplaced! The arrangement suits me rather well because I am left with
lots of time when I am not working, and therefore lots of time for walking the
hills. Last October I accompanied friend Jim on the well-known 192 mile
Wainwright Coast to Coast Walk. This year saw a repeat of the 62.5 mile White
Horse Walk in May, raising over £2,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, and in
June I spent time walking in Shropshire with friends I met on the Coast to
Coast Walk. Last month included a week in the Austrian Alps and it's off to
Eire later this month and Scotland next. You wouldn't expect me to be doing
anything else, would you?
